Taking Your Dog to the Beach

There’s something about watching a dog discover the beach for the first time.

The sand.

The waves.

The smells.

That moment when they realize there is an entire stretch of the world made for running, exploring, and getting a little sandy.

Their nose goes first.

Then the paws.

And before you know it, they're having the best day ever.

Living in Miami means we're lucky enough to have the beach right here. And we think our pups deserve to enjoy it, too.

Why Is the Beach Good for Dogs?

A beach day gives dogs something their everyday surroundings sometimes can't:

a whole new world to explore.

It's Great Mental Stimulation

Dogs experience the world through their noses.

At the beach, there's so much to take in — saltwater, sand, sea air, other animals, new people, and a million interesting smells.

All that sniffing and exploring gives their brains something to do, too.

It's not just physical exercise.

It's an adventure.

It Gets Them Moving

Running through sand is different from walking on pavement or grass.

The changing surface encourages dogs to use their bodies differently and can make a beach outing a fun way to add movement to their day.

And then there's the obvious part:

zoomies by the ocean.

It's a Change of Scenery

Dogs can get just as excited about a new adventure as we do.

A new place means new smells, new things to see, and new experiences.

For some pups, simply getting out of their usual neighborhood can turn an ordinary day into something memorable.

But Miami Beach Days Need a Little Planning

The Miami sun is beautiful.

It can also be a lot.

Before heading out with your pup, keep a few things in mind.

Watch the Heat

Try to avoid the hottest parts of the day and look for cooler times when possible.

Always give your dog access to fresh drinking water and watch for signs that they're getting too hot.

Protect Those Paws

Sand and pavement can become extremely hot under the Miami sun.

If the ground is too hot for your hand, it's too hot for their paws.

Bring Fresh Water

Ocean water is not a substitute for drinking water.

Bring plenty of fresh water for your pup and offer it throughout the day.

Rinse Off After

Salt and sand can stick to fur and paws.

A good rinse after a beach adventure helps get everything off before your pup heads home.

And honestly?

A post-beach bath is half the fun.
